Today is International Day of Happiness, to celebrate I thought I would spread as much happiness as I could, starting with this post!
Life gets so busy, you start to forget what really matters!
And to me, that’s happiness.
Happiness is difficult for me, I’m one of those introverted, worrying, pessimistic types, so to simply “be happy” is a very hard challenge to begin with. My first instinct is to be grumpy or shy/quiet (which can also be interpreted as grumpy!). It’s only recently I’ve discovered I’m not alone and that there is in fact a form of explanation for how I feel and sometimes act.
I suffer with anxiety. A mild form of it, which can if I let it, gets out of control, very quickly.
“Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe.”
I’ve carried it with me all my life without knowing it but now I do, so I am learning ways of coping.
One of those ways is yoga & meditation (bet you were wondering when I was going to mention yoga).
Since starting yoga, it’s been truly transformative, both physically and mentally, which I hadn’t even noticed until recently. These days I feel better equipped for whatever life throws at me and more confident in myself meaning I do not worry quite so much and ENJOY more of life and am HAPPY 😃 so what’s not to love about that?
Send those positive vibes out into the world, and trust me, they get reflected back. Whether it’s a smile from a stranger on a bus, to having a good ol’ knee’s up (yes, I did just say that) with your friends or enjoying a family meal together. Life is precious, why spend it caught up in your head with worry?
Trust me, it’s ok to let yourself enjoy the moment. The world won’t end… I promise.
LET’S BE HAPPY
So, come on and join in on the fun.
Think of something you can do right now that brings a smile to your face, give a good friend a hug, watch a re-run of your favourite TV show, sing along to your favourite song, maybe have a dance to celebrate being alive?
And if you end up having a dark moment, remember you get to the light by moving through the darkness.
Don’t shy away from what is making you worry – take it on and you’ll be so much stronger and happier for it. Don’t listen to the little voice in your head. You can do it, it’s like taking the first leap with bakasana (crow pose), there’s a 50/50 chance you’ll face plant, but if you trust in yourself you won’t. And if you do, then laugh it off, pick yourself up and try again!
You can do it.
You can be happy.
You are strong.
You are worthy.
Sending love and light and a big ol’ cheesy grin from me to you.
